“McCoy—Connie? … Yeah, he’s here. You want to talk to him? … Okay, give me a minute.” McCoy hesitated. “I’m sorry—I didn’t realize that nobody called you.” He shook his head and made his way back to Cutter’s room. Knocked. “Mike?”
“What?” Cutter’s voice was muffled by the door.
“Phone.”
McCoy could hear Cutter stirring. Several seconds later, he opened the door, looking tired and confused. “What?”
“Phone. It’s Connie.”
“Why’d she call here?” Cutter asked blankly.
“Because she couldn’t get a hold of you and was getting worried. Now talk to her.” McCoy pushed the wireless handset into Cutter’s hand and walked away. Cutter stared after him for several seconds before remembering the phone.
“Connie? Uh … hi.”
“What?” Cutter’s voice was muffled by the door.
“Phone.”
McCoy could hear Cutter stirring. Several seconds later, he opened the door, looking tired and confused. “What?”
“Phone. It’s Connie.”
“Why’d she call here?” Cutter asked blankly.
